English cannot be failed, as your final mark is simply a ranking. However, there are other options available to you in early January to prove your English competency to be eligible to get into Curtin:

1) Sit the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic):

For information on the PTE Academic, please refer to the Pearson website.

2) Sit the Written English component of the STAT

The STAT (Special Tertiary Admissions Test) is a national test for mature age applicants designed to assess aptitude for learning in a tertiary environment. The STAT is comprised of two sections:

  • STAT Multiple Choice (MC)
  • STAT Written English (WE)

To prove your English competency at Curtin University you will be required to undertake the Written English component of the STAT.  To find out more information about the STAT please visit the TISC website.

2.1 ) Invitation to sit the STAT (* current school leavers only)

This option is only available for current Year 12 leavers. Students will be invited to sit the STAT if they have an ATAR greater than (>)55.00 and have a scaled score greater than (>)0.00 in English, Literature or EALD.

You will be advised if a university has invited you to sit the STAT in your University Admissions Advice Letter (UAAL). The UAAL is available online from Wednesday 30 December 2015.

2.2) Request to sit the STAT Written English

If you are under 20 years of age and not a current school leaver you will need to request permission to sit the Written English portion of the STAT by emailing the University Admission Centre.
